Hyatt to introduce Park Hyatt brand to Johannesburg

Hyatt to introduce Park Hyatt brand to Johannesburg

Hyatt has announced plans to open the luxurious Park Hyatt Johannesburg in 2023.

This new property will occupy the former Winston Hotel following an extensive refurbishment of the legendary site.

Transformation of a legendary hotel

A Hyatt affiliate has entered into a management agreement with an affiliate of Millat Group for the development of Park Hyatt Johannesburg in the city’s Rosebank suburb. The Winston Hotel will be available to book through Hyatt within the coming weeks, with its rebrand as a Park Hyatt hotel to happen following the completion of its refurbishment in early 2023.

This is the fourth collaboration between Hyatt and the Millat Group in South Africa.

Commenting on the news, Ludwig Bouldoukian, regional vice president of development in the Middle East and Africa for Hyatt International, said: “We are delighted to continue building on our relationship with the Millat Group and add Park Hyatt Johannesburg to Hyatt’s growing collection of luxury properties throughout the African continent.”

“Park Hyatt hotels are found in the world’s most premier destinations and this development in Rosebank demonstrates a commitment to catering to both domestic and international high-end travellers who are looking for an oasis of calm and refinement, highly attentive personal service and elevated experiences in an intimate environment, while still enjoying the vibrancy of Johannesburg.”

A stylish base for business and leisure

The award-winning designer Yabu Pushelberg will oversee the refurbishment of this hotel with the promise of its heritage and integrating craftsmanship of the locale. Guests can expect contemporary space combining indoor and outdoor elements for an experience that draws on the surrounding landscape.

On becoming a Park Hyatt property, the hotel will welcome business and leisure travelers in for a hotel stay combining a home-away-from-home feel with understated luxury and personalized service. Art and design will be met with a reference for culture and exceptional food and drink.

The hotel’s 30 rooms and suites will be joined by a restaurant with outdoor terrace overlooking the pool, an atmospheric bar with open-air courtyard and multi-purpose event space for conferences and meetings. By staying here, guests have easy access to the Rosebank area’s restaurants, bars and galleries.

“We are excited to work with Hyatt again,” said Hamza Farooqui, the Millat Group’s CEO. “The plans for Park Hyatt Johannesburg represent an incredibly exciting addition to our hotel portfolio.”

“We have seen a considerable uptake in domestic and international travel, from both a leisure and a business travel perspective. Hyatt and Millat’s proven understanding of luxury travel will ensure that the renovated hotel offers a world-class product and service never before seen in South Africa.”
